Average Times Forster Ironman

Green is the Fastest Average Times, Red the slowest
2005 was the slowest of the last eight years, 11:49:22, solely because of the run. The heat made it tough going, but 214 competitors improved their run time from the previous year, including Victorian Mark Lyons who improved his run time from 2004 by 3hrs 18 min, with a 4:18:48. It should be noted that Mark generally is a solid 4hr runner, and from the statistics it appears he has been working hard at all three disciplines with a PR for the swim 0:56:33, Ride 5:19:49 and Overall 10:35:10. But who has made the greatest improvement in each of the three disciplines at the Forster Ironman since 1998. Ok, to be eligible for contention you have to have competed in 2005 and also have finished the Forster Ironman on at least 3 other occasions. Remember this is my article and I was looking for steady progression, and I know that nearly everyone who has done 4 Ironman’s has had a blow out in at least one discipline so large discrepancies were disregarded.
The Swim
Jodie Palmer from Darlinghurst, NSW, has made a huge improvement in her swimming. In 2002 Jodie completed the swim in 1 hr 21 min 34 sec, each subsequent year she progressed and punched out a 59min 21sec swim at this years Ironman.

The Ride
Tony Southwell, a well known name at Ironman Australia, improved on his previous best ride by a shade over one hour, with a 5:07:22. Prior to this year Tony’s average bike time was 6:32:46.

The Run
There have been two athletes who have made steady progression, Julian Weller from South Australia and Michael Baker of New South Wales.
